Welcome to Tjala Arts (formerly Minymaku Arts)

Tjala Arts is an Aboriginal owned and managed corporation that sells artwork on behalf of its members. Tjala is the Pitjantjatjara word for Honey Ant - a favourite traditional bush food. Tjala is the Tjukurpa or Creation Story for Amata where we are located. Our original name Minymaku was chosen by the women who initiated the art centre in 1999. The name was appropriate at the time because it translates as ?belonging to women?. Now that women and men, young and old participate the artists thought it was time to change our name.

Location

Amata is an Aboriginal community situated in the Anangu Pitjantjatjara/Yankunyjatjara Lands (APY) in the far Northwest of South Australia. Amata is situated amongst the picturesque Musgrave Ranges, approximately 120km south of Uluru (Ayers Rock) and 500km southwest of Alice Springs. The art centre is opposite the Community Store and houses a gallery, painting area, office and storage area.
